The Positive Schools 2026 conferences offer up-to-date relational approaches to build respectful and positive behaviours, and  effectively address conflict, aggression and bullying in our schools.

TALKS & WORKSHOPS WILL FOCUS ON:

  • Developing respectful behaviours between students and staff.
  • Preventing and managing aggression and bullying online and off.
  • Building learning engagement with healthy context and communication.
  • Guiding students to respectful relationships with their peers and with staff.
  • Addressing misogynistic behaviour and what we need to do to prevent it, and manage it.
  • Supporting neurodivergent students, students with poor mental or physical health and/or those experiencing complex trauma.
  • Guiding self-determination and positive behavioural choices with agency and autonomous motivation.
  • Understanding and supporting healthy online behaviours for different ages and stages.
  • Managing risk and discomfort, and building students' capacity to take positive action.
  • Embracing healthier understandings of stress and learning to live well.

Aspiring to Positive Classroom Behaviour Dr Sue Roffey Children have an innate curiosity about the world – surely the role of education is to capture, maintain and grow that love of learning. In 2025 the UK All-Party Parliamentary Group for Education published An Inquiry into the Loss of Love of Learning. In this they cited all the associated problems, including poor attendance, disengaged students, rising behaviour difficulties and teacher attrition. But good practice does exist, so this talk is about ten primary schools that are really engaging ALL children and where both teachers and learners can’t wait to get to school every day. What are the vision and values that underpin what these schools are doing every day, how does this align with the ASPIRE principles of Agency, Safety, Positivity, Inclusion, Respect and Equity and what difference is this making to learning, behaviour, attendance and academic outcomes? And how might all schools replicate this so every child loves learning?

Based in Brisbane, Michael has a background in Education, Mental Health Promotion and Community Development. Working with deaf-blind students in a progressive learning centre in Glasgow, he became aware of autism, sensory profiles and the very real barriers to inclusion. Work in innovative community health projects and the NHS lead to a Masters of Public Health focussing on mental health promotion in schools. Moving to Queensland in 2002, a growing interest in the practical application of neuroscience and inclusion has informed his work with diverse school communities on mental health, wellbeing, inclusion and trauma informed practice. Michael is passionate about inclusive approaches to wellbeing and developing neurodiversity affirming practice.
